Radon mitigation assembly involves drilling system, venting system, piping assembly and fan installation. There are various procedures to install radon mitigation assembly. All the systems are installed after detailed visual inspection of place to understand condition of the place and to judge that what system will be desirable for specific place. Here comes the most important question about the vent radon pipe cap. Is it necessary to install the cap on the vent of the drainage pipe? The answer is no. It depends on many factor and considerations.
Firstly, consider the dust debris. It is obvious that as the time passes, the dust particles will enter the drain pipe. But here is the answer that as the particles enter the outlet of pipe, the force of the fan will not allow particles to go down. Fan is not just design to suck the air from bottom and through it to the outer air. Due to repulsion power and pressure of the fan, the dust particles will be automatically thrown out of the vent. Secondly, what if the water due to rain or by any other means enter the drain pipe? The answer is the same. The fan speed and its pressure will force particles to go out of the drain hosing.
Another consideration come in mind that what about animals? If somehow an animal encounters with the outer hosing or the fan there will be no harm to the piping and the fan. The material of construction is robust and tough enough that it will not break will the attack of the animals. The casing around the fan acts as a protective shield and it surely protects the fan to get damage. The cover provides the best solution to weather conditions and accidently attacks. This cover has the extra flange for the screws so that it become easy to install and tighten up the cover with wall or with the back metallic plate. There is a metallic body (Back Plate) which is to be attached with the wall to provide smooth installation of the fan. This metallic body also helps to hold up the fan firmly to wall and the risks of fan to get damaged are reduced. The cover body of the fan is made with the best PVC. The cover itself is Ultraviolet Radiations protected and paintable which enhances the life of the cover and thus the overall life span of the whole radon mitigation system is improved.
Another reason not to have drain cap is that when gas contacts with the cap in winter season, the gas will possibly convert to liquid state and eventually it will freeze. And this will act as a barrier in the flow of gas to outer atmosphere.
So, considering all the aspects the cap on the outer drain end is not mandatory.
